66 countries and counting: How does globe-trotting David Hoffman stay charged?Topic: Lifestyle
David Hoffman has the word “travel” tattooed across his forearm. It’s not like he needed a reminder though. He’s been to so many countries that his blog, David’s Been Here, might have to change names to highlight the countries he hasn’t visited. Andorra, Bosnia, Swaziland, Venezuela, and 62 other nations have received visits from this gregarious globe-trotter.
Named to USA Today’s 2014 list of best travel videographers, David is known for short videos that mix cool activities (dune bashing in Qatar, anyone?), a taste for local food secrets, and the occasional dive into linguistics. We caught up with him to ask what he packs as he travels the world.
Q: What is your must-have device when traveling? Has it changed in the past five years?
My favorite device is the iPhone 6+. It has changed as the iPhone and technology have evolved. I also bring along a 4-in-1 photo lens from Olloclip to get way better shots with my iPhone.
Q: What’s in your travel bag? Could you share a photo with us?
Depending on the length of the trip, I bring two to three pairs of shoes, one pair of jeans, one pair black pants, and one pair shorts (if it’s not a winter destination), 10 shirts (polos, long, and short sleeve), and two underwear and socks per day of the trip. Besides that I take a luggage scale, toiletry bag, my Canon EOS 6D with two lenses, GoPro, and XShot.
Q: What’s your favorite place you’ve visited, and where are you heading next?
My favorite destination is actually a region, the Balkans! The literal translation of “Balkans” means Blood and Honey. It dates from the times the Ottomans invaded the area. It is made up of Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Kosovo, and Albania. It has fascinating history, beautiful towns, and amazing food and drinks! Plus you can be in 10 different countries in only a two-hour drive.
