The best wired and wireless chargers for your LG V30Topic: Tech Specs
Reports of the death of the headphone jack in smartphones are premature. That 3.5mm port lives on. You might even say it thrives in the LG V30, which many critics say has the best audio of any flagship smartphone on the market.
They’re also saying the camera is excellent, and the screen is one of the best LG has ever put out.
Those same critics have also knocked its battery life, which might leave users saying “Please Don’t Stop the Music” at the end of a long day.
But don’t worry, because the LG V30 is compatible with the fastest charging technologies on the market. An array of chargers and portable power packs can keep you powered up.
First, some details. There are basically two “fast charging” standards out there: Qualcomm® Quick Charge™ and USB Power Delivery. With Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 technology and USB Power Delivery, the LG V30 charged at about the same rate.
Here’s why that’s important: The charger you get when you buy the LG V30 depends on where you buy it. If you buy through Verizon, you get a 20-watt charger that’s compatible with USB Power Delivery. When sold through other carriers, the LG V30 comes with a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger. (And just to be clear, both chargers work for the LG V30, regardless of where you bought it.)
Check out the chart below, which compares how quickly an LG V30 powered up with the in box USB Power Delivery charger versus a few Ventev wall and car chargers. The bars show how long it took for the device to cross different battery power thresholds.
So, which chargers do we recommend?
USB Power Delivery-compatible chargers have their advantages, namely the ability to charge any USB Type-C™ device. That means the 20-watt charger that comes with a phone bought at a Verizon store could charge a small laptop – though it may not charge optimally if the laptop’s top charging speed is above 20 watts. The Ventev wallport pd1300 provides up to 45-watts of power. It might be a good option for people who travel and don’t want the hassle of carrying a charger for the laptop, tablet, and a phone.
Qualcomm Quick Charge chargers, on the other hand, tend to be less expensive – and, because they tend to use a USB-A connection, it’s easy to swap out cables to charge other smartphones. Ventev offers several chargers that are Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 compatible, including the dashport rq1300 for the car, and the wallport rq1300 for the home or office.
When it comes to wireless chargers, there’s a bigger difference in the time it takes to get a full charge.
In comparison, wireless charging overall is slower than plugging in – nearly an hour slower when you compare Ventev’s Qualcomm Quick Charge or USB Power Delivery chargers to the wireless chargestand. But, the wireless chargestand, got to a full charge more than 30 minutes faster than the Samsung Convertible.
That’s because it charges at 15 watts, compared to 9 watts for the Samsung Convertible.
The LG V30 stands out from other flagship phones with unsurpassed sound quality. It sounds so good that the 3,300 mAh battery might not be enough to get you through the day. However, the latest charging speeds, and better chargers, will keep the music playing non-stop.
